What is
Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise that was created
by a man named Joseph Pilates, who brought his
form of exercise to the United States from
Germany in 1926.
Originally known as Contrology, the Pilates
Method includes a system of mat exercises, along
with the use of various equipment that Joe
invented to suit his specific needs. These
exercises are used to target the "core" muscles
of the torso, while strengthening and
lengthening the muscles of the entire body.
Special attention is paid to proper body
alignment and breathing in order to create
stability, control, and flexibility throughout
the entire body without adding bulk to your
muscles.
The method of Pilates taught at Simple Balance
takes into consideration the individual needs of
every client. We understand that not every body
is the same and therefore, through the use of
specialized programs that will sometimes include
modifications and the use of simple props, every
body can reap the benefits that can be found in
the Pilates Method.
