The RRWA... in brief
Founded in 1982, the Roaring Run Watershed Association’s mission is to conserve and protect the Roaring Run Watershed and to provide recreational opportunities for all.
We are a non-profit environmental organization registered under both Pennsylvania and Federal Codes.
The watershed, in Kiski Township, near Apollo, Pennsylvania, includes both Rattling Run and Roaring Run.
Waterfalls, huge boulders and tree-covered hills make the area ideal for picnics, hiking and the enjoyment of nature.
With the help of state and local authorities the Association has helped to curb the pollution and dumping that was once a common practice in the area.
RRWA presently owns about 652 acres of land which is open to the public all year round.
In recent years the “Rails to Trail” portion of the watershed area has been significantly extended, now providing nearly 5 miles ending in the village of Edmon.

This wide multi use
trail has a unique distinction among other “Rail Trails”
with the new addition of the Rock Furnace Trail section.
This trail leaves the banks of the Kiski River, and heads
inland for 1.5 miles, crossing over beautiful Roaring Run by
way of a 72 foot cable suspension bridge, and ending at an
alternate parking area and trail head.
In addition, the progress has not stopped there. An entire system of hiking and mountain biking trails is being built and maintained by the local trail enthusiasts, with the prudent oversight of the board of directors.
Sustainable trails have now become another hallmark in this over 25 year legacy of service to “Conserve, Protect & Enjoy” this tremendous gem of a natural resource we call the Roaring Run Recreation Area.

Facebook Group? We would love to have you! It's a great
